Gymnastics
GRANTHAM and District Schools’ Gymnastics Competition was once again dominated by Walton Girls and KGGS in the secondary section, but some new schools emerged victorious in the primary age groups. Walton A took the under-13 girls’ title ahead of their B team and third placed KGGS A. In the under-16 girls’ event, KGGS A came out on top above Walton A and KGGS B in third. King’s retained their under-13 boys’ title. At primary level, the under-9 girls’ was won by St Mary’s ahead of Cliffedale. Isaac Newton triumphed over Cliffedale in the under-11 girls’, taking the overall by a single point after good floor performances.
There were four schools entered in the primary boys’ competition with Grantham Preparatory claiming the title by 0.7 points from St Mary’s. First time entrants National and St Anne’s finished third and fourth respectively. Individually, Gonerby Hill Foot twins Isla and Neeve Pexton finished first and second in the under-7 girls’.
The boy’s was won by Oliver Denton of St Anne’s. Scarlett Heaton (St Mary’s) and Chelsea Smith (Huntingtower) tied for first in the under-9s and the boys’ was also a tie for first between Jack Gurney (St Mary’s) and Cameron Chow (Grantham Prep). The under-11 girls’ was won by Paris Duffree (Grantham Prep) and the boys’ was a tie between Ryan Poole (National) and Jacob Armstrong (St Mary’s). The Primary Advanced girls’ competition saw Lucy Valentine (St Mary’s) easily take the title by more than three marks. Walton team-mates Chloe Kirby and Chloe Smith tied for first place in the under-13 girls’ set competition and the Lewis Coverley triumphed in the boys’ event. The under-16 girls’ set was narrowly won by Emma Duncan (William Robertson) and Max Wilson (King’s) was victorious in the boys’. Overall winner in the Secondary Advanced girls’ competition was KGGS’s Antonia Freestone.
